Nursing records of pain valuation in acute myocardial infarction.

Abstract

The pain pattern in acute myocardial infarction is quite complex and presents a wide variability, because of the difficulties in the objective valuation of the pain, where patients diagnosed from acute myocardial infarction cannot be able to give appropriate information about their painful experience. Oftenly, the patients in the coronary care unit present difficulties to communicate their pain, and it is increased due to the anxiety and fear. It is essential a suitable valuation of the pain due to that is demonstrated that when the patients presents more pain is higger the mortality rate and important complications.
During the evaluation process, the nurse receive information about the patient experience. The information obtained guide the nurse in the planning and evaluation of care strategies. The pain rarely is static; thus the valuation is a continuing process for a comprehension of the pain. This process prevents complications and improves life quality of the patient.
Most research studies about painful are based in oncological and surgical patients, so we need research studies about myocardial infarction patients. The objective of this study is to analyze the nursing records in a cardiac intensive care unit in order to know how the nurses value and reflect the patients’ pain from acute myocardial infarction.
