The burnout syndrome and the nurses of the Hospital “Virgen de la Salud” at Toledo.

Abstract

Objective: To show and to measure the presence of burnout in nurses who work in the Virgen de la Salud Hospital.
Material and methods: Included in a cross and descriptive study with Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), analysing three characteristics, emotional exhaustion, depersonalitazion and lack of personal accomplishment, by means of descriptive data of the population (12 items) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI).  The period of study elapsed among November 11, the 2002 to March 28, the 2003.
Results: 320 questionnaires were collected (what supposes more than the 70% of the nurses who work in the hospital), it was declared that 17,83% of the nurses suffered from burnout (interval of confidence of the 95% corresponds to 14.2%-1.4%). Besides, the presence of emotional exhaustion was objectified the 43.3 of the nurses, depersonalitazion in the 57% and , lack of personal accomplishment in the 35.66%.
Conclusions: The presence of burnout in the nurses of our hospital was detected. The cases appeared move in similar ranks to done studies in the last times with nurses. The most important group of nurses than presents burnout is that of hospitalization. It conducts us the professionals of nurse to know and to practice measures to fight the apparition of burnout and to set in motion mechanisms to resolve satisfactorily the known cases.
