Believes and perceptions of professional and non professional caregivers of patients from ischemic cardiopathy.

Abstract

Individuals belong to different groups at the same time, first of all the family until the second place all the others. Their ability to care (professionals and family caregivers) and their credibility as health promotors is related to their believes and knowledge of the sickness.
The aim was to know the believes and perceptions of the caregiver personal (professional and familiar) related to their causes, consequences and use of the risk factors of coronary illness in four hospitals of the province of Barcelona.
Sample. 57 family caregivers of patients who suffer form heart attack for the first time, 65 nurses and 38 doctors that were working in every time table and service where patients from ischemic cardiopathy were treated. We use SPSS v. 9.0.1 programme to analyse the data.
Results. The 72% of the familiars thought that the patients made a rich diet. The 78% thought that they didn’t do enough exercise. The 61% had suffer a very important event in the last three years. 66% thought they were able to take care of the familiar. No differences had been observed between the opinions of nurses and doctors, neither among the different hospitals. The patient is the maximum responsible of the control of his illness. This project has been granted by the Spanish Society of Cardiology and by the Barcelona University.
