Care planning for patients with congestive cardiac failure (CCF).

Abstract

Congestive cardiac failure is given when myocardium does not pump blood efficiently, taking place congestion in corporeal circulation. Any state compromising cardiac functioning may cause congestive cardiac failure (CCF). CCF constitutes an important complication of cardiopathy in aging population and its prevalence increases with age.
CCF is the disability of the heart to supply enough cardiac activity to cover the body metabolic needs.  CCF may be due to situations that increase the hydric volume and leads to a circulatory overload (preload increase) and to states that increase resistance to the blood flow from the heart (afterload increase).
From Cardiology Nursing Unit at Sta. Maria Nai Hospital (Ourense Hospital complex) we have thought it necessary to elaborate a plan of standardized care to help us in solving the problems shown by patients with this pathology and that, at the same time, may be useful for nurses attending the different hospitalization units. This plan of standardized care for patients with C.C.F. has the most frequent real nursing diagnoses and those of risk that patients with the mentioned pathology may show. For this purpose we have based on our attendance experience that has as a support Virginia Henderson’s Nursing Model, NANDA’s taxonomy and the computer application GACELA (Assistance Procedure Nursing Care Open Line), as well as on bibliographic revisions.
This planning will serve us as a guide to individualize it according to the needs detected on each patient, guaranteeing the quality of care and favoring the adjustment of the users and their families to their new health situation.
