Abstract

Objetives: To try the idoneity of the compressive bandage alter the pacemaker implantation.
Material and methods: Prospective study. The material was two form sheets where variables before, during and after the procedure were recorded. The study period was from september to february 10, 2004.
Results: The taken specimens were of 44 ill people, that is 100 % of the pacemaker implantations in the study period.  A subcutaneous hematoma appeared in 7 cases (15.9 %) 24 hours after the implantation, 5 of them had bled abundantly while implanting. The pocket hematoma appeared in 3 cases (6.8 %) of which 2 had a high bleed; 6 of them all had been anticoagulated with HpNa. Ten days after the implantation, 21 ill people presented subcutaneous hematomas (47.7 %). 9 of them had reinitiated anticoagulation before the following 48 hours and 10 had had AAS before and after the operation.
Conclusions: When a compressive bandage is put for 24 hours after a pacemaker implantation; 22.7% of ill people present a hematoma on removing the bandage. And 10 days later, 47.7 % of ill people present some kind of hematoma.
