The times of delay in the acute myocardial infarction treatment. Sexer study.

Abstract

The attendance in the acute myocardial infarction reveals differences between female and male patients. Nevertheless, women present greater risk factors, as well as a greater incidence of complications and higher mortality.
Our aim has been to determine if in our unit those differences pointed by the bibliography occurred.
Material and methods. Observational and descriptive study, comparing, times of delay between the men and women admitted in the Coronary Unit of the CHGU of Valencia, diagnosed of acute myocardial infarction, susceptible to thrombolysis or angioplasty during a period of six months. The statistical processing has been made with SSPS 9.0.1 (probability distribution Ji-square, Fisher exact test and nonparametric tests). The information collection has been made by means of surveys.Studied variables: prehospital delay, transport delay, door-to-needle delay. The sample was of 38 men and 29 women.
Results. 13% of men and to the 24% of women were not administered thromboembolytics by a delay over 360 min. 10% of men were applied angioplasty; 77% of men were applied thrombolysis. Average delays were: prehospital delay 61 min, transport delay 32 min, and door-to-needle delay 30 min.6.8 % of women were applied angioplasty, 69.2% of women were applied thrombolysis. Average delays were: prehospital delay 86 min, transport delay 37 min, and door-to-needle delay 40 min.
Conclusions. The times of delay, prehospital, transport and door-to-needle delays, are longer in the women; it is also greater the number of the women who did not receive treatment and the number to which angioplasty was not applied.
