Abstract |
The deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and the pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) are relatively frequent in hospitalized patients, both medical and surgical, and also in patients who have recently been discharged from hospital. According to some necropsic studies, PTE is the cause of 20% of hospital mortality and a 15% of the postsurgical one. The application of prophylactic measures to postsurgical patients diminishes the morbidity and the mortality associated to the deep venous thrombosis (DVT).It is necessary for the prevention of these pathologies that the nursing staff acquires the necessary knowledge and their update, because the aim of our cares is the maintenance of health and the prevention of complications. The knowledge of Virchow’s triad, signs and symptoms, risk factors, the different prophylactic treatments (pharmacological and mechanical). The sanitary education on risk factors, oral anticoagulants and stimulation of the venous circulation in hospitalized and discharged patients, led us to realise this review to update our knowledge in the daily practice. |
