Validation management protocol in transradial catheterization with haemostatic device SYVEKpatch®. Preliminar study.

Abstract

Transradial access for cardiac procedures has experienced a considerable expansion for its several advantages. Specific haemostatic devices have been developed to facilitate compression. The new haemostatic device SyvekPatch® has been tried in the femoral access with effective results. For the transradial approach there is not evidence of its usefulness. In our laboratory, a nursing protocol has been designed for the application of this device for radial compression after cardiac catheterization. From 15th february 2004 to 15th april 2004, 90 consecutive patients were included. The management protocol was structured as follows; inclusion/exclusion criteria, handling of SyvekPatch®, haemostasia, classification of complications and follow-up. Results: 90 patients were included mean age 64.4 (40 – 86), who 71 were men (78,8%) and 19 women (21,1%). Sixty-seven diagnostics and 23 interventional procedures were done. The complications during compression were 21 bleeding and 17 haematomas, with a total of 19 crossovers to conventional bandage. The mean time for compression was 6.1 min for the diagnostics and 8,5 min for therapeutics. Conclusions: the times calculated in our protocol must be adjusted at the mean times to obtain an incidence of complications such as the conventional bandage.
