Oral communication between nursing team in cardiology: Evaluation and effective communication in the cardiology service.

Abstract

Communication is a fundamental aspect in our lives since we do not live isolated, but we establish relations with the external world and with other men and women. Relations between human beigns, or what is the same interpersonal relations, are necessary for the society since all the relations are based or need from them.
The study took as targets: to evalue the oral communication between the subjects of the study and later, to achieve an effective communication between nurses, in order to improve the care of patients, real centre of our work.
The analysis of the data gathered from 33 nurses who work at the Cardiology Service showed us the following results: all the subjects believed that an this topic. 94% would have liked having more knowledge on interpersonal communication. 82% had been witnesses of errors in the execution of the work for an incorrect communication, in 55% of the cases the error had consequences, being the patient affected in all the cases. 24% of the subjects presented inadequate verbal communication. 12% was qualified as bad listeners and, finally, 39% had a bad comprehension of verbal contents.
The obtained information shows that a high percentage of subjects of this study presents shortcomings to be good communicators, in addition to demanding training about interpersonal communication. And also it is demonstrated that an incorrect communication has negative repercussions on patients.
